The University of Stuttgart is offering two PhD scholarships for the class of 2025.
PhD scholarships for the class of 2025.

Do you find the chemistry of catalytic reactions taking place within atomic-scale structures or crystalline molecular frameworks fascinating? Then this is your opportunity to begin a career in research at one of the best technical universities in Germany!
Applications are now being accepted for PhD and postdoctoral positions in the recently formed research group of Jun.-Prof. Dr. Kenichi Endo at the Institute of Polymer Chemistry, University of Stuttgart. These roles are open right now and have funding secured through December 2026. They are part of the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1333, which focuses on Molecular Heterogeneous Catalysis in Confined Geometries.
Concerning the Study
As part of the team, you’ll delve into the synthesis of MOF–COF hybrid frameworks (Figure 1 in the official call) with catalytic centers and explore their application in organic molecule conversion. This research has powerful implications for material innovation, sustainable chemistry, and nano-engineering.
Who Should Apply?
Applicants must hold a master’s degree in chemistry or materials science and have a solid background in one or more of the following areas:
- (Metal)organic synthesis
- Catalysis of organic reactions
- Molecular porous materials
Additional skills (not mandatory but preferred):
- Schlenk line or glovebox techniques
- PXRD, NMR, SEM, IR, UV–vis, ESI-MS, gas sorption, electrochemistry
- Python or Materials Studio software knowledge.
Excellent English communication skills and motivation to engage in CRC events and interdisciplinary collaboration are essential.
What You’ll Get
Joining Jun.-Prof. Dr. Endo’s pioneering research group means you’re not just getting a position—you’re stepping into a vibrant world of scientific discovery, collaboration, and growth. As one of the first researchers in this dynamic team, you’ll shape the future of catalysis in porous crystalline materials while enjoying exceptional academic and personal support.
Generous Funding & Salary—PhD candidates will receive competitive pay aligned with the prestigious German public service scale—either 50% or 67% of E13 TV-L, depending on qualifications. Postdoctoral researchers will be rewarded with 100% of E14 TV-L, offering a strong financial foundation while advancing your career.
Inspiring You’ll You’ll dive deep into cutting-edge molecular frameworks and catalytic science in a flexible, interactive lab environment. As a fully integrated member of CRC 1333, you’ll benefit from structured training through the GRADUS graduate academy, gain exclusive access to scientific symposia, and build the problem-solving and critical thinking skills essential for top-tier researchers.
