On average, how many steps do people take each day?

greater people are paying greater attention to their daily steps as wearable fitness trackers gain popularity. And it appears to be working.

Those who measure their daily steps take an average of 2,500 more than those who don’t, according to the American Council on Exercise.

Your efforts won’t be in vain if you’re among the millions of people who strive to reach the widely advised 10,000 steps per day target.

Walking and other forms of regular exercise have several health advantages, such as lowering the risk of:

However, what is the average person’s daily step count? Is it sufficient, too?

As one ages, fewer steps are taken.

A review from 2011 According to a Trusted Source study, persons over the age of 18 walk between 4,000 and 18,000 steps every day.

Children and teenagers were the subject of another 2011 review (Trusted Source).

According to the study, people under the age of eighteen walk between 10,000 and 16,000 steps every day.

The authors observed that when teenagers get closer to the age of 18, their daily step count drastically decreases.

There is little doubt that age influences how much walking a person does.

Additionally, younger persons are more likely than older adults to meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendations for aerobic activity.

Men typically walk more.

It seems that the average number of steps done by men and women differs significantly.

Males tend to walk more from childhood to maturity.

They walk between 12,000 and 16,000 steps a day on average as kids and teenagers.

In contrast, young women receive between 10,000 and 12,000 dollars.

At least in the US, this tendency persists into adulthood.

Just over 1,000 persons’ pedometer data were examined in a 2010 study (Trusted Source).

The average daily step count for men was 5,340, while the average daily step count for women was 4,912.

Your employment probably has an impact as well.

The average number of steps you take each day may also be influenced by your occupation.

In 2012, Jenny Craig carried out a small study with ten Australian participants, each of whom had a different occupation.

To keep track of their steps, they were provided with pedometers.
