Lusófona University and the CERIS Research Centre invite applications for a Research Scholarship under the project INTENT—Intelligent Health Monitoring of Road Infrastructures, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT)
Program Overview
- Project Title: Intelligent health monitoring of road infrastructures using bender elements embedded in pavements (INTENT)
- Host Institutions: Lusófona University (RISE) and CERIS Research Centre, Lisbon, Portugal
- Contracting Entity: COFAC – Cooperativa de Formação e Animação Cultural CRL
- Duration: 6 months (starting September 2025), renewable up to 12 months
- Working Location: Lisbon, Portugal
- Research Field: Formal and Natural Sciences (focus on Civil and Structural Engineering)
Research Focus
- Fatigue degradation modeling in pavement granular layers
- Development of machine learning algorithms for early damage detection
- Creation of an advanced toolbox for real-time data acquisition and forecasting
This cutting-edge research will contribute to road infrastructure sustainability by leveraging bender element technology to monitor dynamic stiffness (shear modulus) in unbound granular layers of pavement.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, you must:
1# Hold a master’s degree in:
- Civil Engineering
- Transportation Engineering
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Or other related relevant areas
2# Degree Recognition: If your MSc is not already recognized in Portugal, a fast-track recognition is available for degrees from the EU and select countries (e.g., USA, UK, Brazil (CAPES 5+), Canada, Russia, Turkey, etc.). A declaration can be submitted during application, and recognition must be completed before the contract starts.
3# Documents Required:
- CV (with ORCID number)
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degree certificates
- Motivation letter
- Optional recommendation letters.
